Close-up carnivores: flesh-eating arthropods enjoying lunch

Most macro and close-up photographers who spend much time chasing bugs around the forest floor are quick to pick up on some of the behavior patterns of their quarry. Several of the creatures we like to photograph can be very skittish around humans, especially when we are wielding big cameras and bright speedlights. But when these otherwise nervous hunters are enjoying a tasty meal, or guarding their prey from other hungry predators, they tend to stand their ground, giving us unrivaled opportunity to get in close.
