Using Water Drops as Lenses

Something creative…

… for a change! Someone I don’t know sent me an email to tell me that he hated my videos (he had watched all of them!) because they weren’t creative enough. Or maybe it was me that wasn’t creative. I can’t remember. So I sent him this picture to prove that I am, in fact, moderately creative.

He wasn’t impressed, so I set about making a creative video instead.

I am a huge fan of the late Salvador Dalí, so I came up with this idea of a melting flower, surrounded by not-melting flowers. The plan was it would like something like this (only not made in Photoshop, like this)…

I used a couple of abstract flower composites as my photographic subjects, and came up with a suspended acrylic platform to put my fake water drops on (fake because I found syrup worked better).

I never got quite what I wanted out of this exercise, but I was happy with a few of the final images. Here are a couple of my favorites…

Anyway, it was good fun and here is the video that explains how to make your own surreal images with water drops and flower photos. Have fun!
