Shooting the Milky Way

What’s up guys?

I had a really cool experience a couple of evenings ago… by pure chance, I noticed that the conditions for some nighttime astrophotography were unusually good. I’d just had a non-productive afternoon of macro shooting and noticed that it was going to be a cloudless and moonless night, and that the Milky Way was going to be prominently visible in the western sky. So off I went, with two cameras all set up, and two fingers crossed.

In all its glory!

The conditions were OK - they looked great at first, but there was a lot more pesky light to deal with that I had hoped for. Anyhow, I took advantage of the opportunity to do a short video on the basics of astrophotography. I am no expert (obviously!), and this type of photography takes a lot of practice. But it was a good chance to share the basic rules of capturing the night sky. We also get into the basic principles of editing Milky Way photos.

You can watch the video right here…

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video, and maybe learn a little from it. Here are a few of the other images I captured that night.

Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you soon!

I really like this shot, even with the light bleeding in from the right

It’s hard not to feel totally insignificant when you look a sight like this…
